History of the Project
It all started when we were exploring in Uganda, East Africa. Through seeing the conditions in which many people were living, and hearing stories about healthcare problems, we became aware, once again, of the tremendous need for health-care workers in sub-Saharan Africa. We were troubled by what we saw and decided that, since we weren't getting any younger, now is the time to be of service and invest our time and our skills in Africa. We contacted hospitals in Uganda and the Ugandan staff at Kisiizi Hospital asked us to please come and work with them. We went to the hospital in 2005 for a month of service where we became involved with the Ugandan staff and intimately aware of the problems that they were facing. We felt we had the skills to assist them. We decided to co-found the Uganda Malaria and Healthcare Project and have since volunteered our time one month each year and raised funds for the welfare of the Ugandan people at Kisiizi hospital.
